The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour-curfew on Sabon Garin Nassarawa – Tirkaniya area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.
According to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the decision was reached following a breakdown of law and order which led to the killing of two citizens in an incident of urban gang violence.
He said, “The Kaduna State government hereby announces the immediate imposition of 24-hour curfew on Sabon Garin Nassarawa-Tirkaniya area of Chikun LGA.
“This decision was reached following a breakdown of law and order which led to the killing of two citizens in an incident of urban gang violence.
“Security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew in the said location, to restore order as investigations proceed. Citizens are therefore urged to strictly observe the curfew in this location, which takes effect immediately.
“Further updates will be communicated accordingly.”
Terrorists had recently shot to death Reverend Musa Mairimi, the minister in charge of ECWA Church, Buda II, Kasuwa Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Kaduna State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Reverend Joseph Hayab, confirmed the incident last week.
He said the attackers invaded the community after killing the clergy.
According to him, the terrorists also abducted Mairimi’s wife, while over 100 people who were abducted from different parts of the state were released.
He explained that reports had it that over 100 abducted people, who had been in the terrorists’ camp for over six months, especially in Kauru, Jaba, Kachia, Kagarko and Kajuru local government areas, were released.
He disclosed that after the presidential election, three clerics were abducted and the terrorists were demanding the sum of N50m as ransom for one of the clerics who had been in their custody.
“But the negotiation that started from N50m has now come down to N5m. That’s the kind of situation that we have found ourselves in Kaduna State,” Hayab had said.
