Despite returning to Torino training last week, Super Eagles’ midfielder, Joel Obi, is a doubt for Nigeria’s 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Tanzania’s Tafia Stars billed for September 5 at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, The Point can authoritatively report.

The Nigeria international, who is on a season long loan to Torino from Inter Milan, suffered functional overload of the semitendinosus muscle of the
left thigh, according to the report of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging test he underwent,

“The report of MRI test Obi underwent showed an overuse of the semitendinosus muscle of the left thigh. Recovery times are currently estimated at approximately 5-7 days,” the Serie A outfit disclosed via a release in its official website. Interestingly, Joel Obi will be expected to join 17 other foreign-based in the Eagles camp in Abuja.

However, a top member of the team’s technical crew told The Point on the condition of anonymity, that the trip to Dar es Salaam might be coming too soon for the midfielder.
“No doubt, it will be too soon but we will have to wait and see what happens to Joel when he reports in camp. It is only then that Oliseh and the technical crew will know the next move,” our source added.
