The dream of Under-23 coach, Samson Siasia, to feature Arsenal striker, Alex Iwobi, at the Olympic Games football event scheduled to hold in August in Rio, Brazil, has been dashed as his father could not persuade him to change his mind about playing for Nigeria.
The Gunners’ striker had featured for Nigeria previously in some international engagements when he pledged allegiance to his fatherland.
At the time, his father was one of the few Nigerians who persuaded the player to play for the Under-23 team and the senior team.
Surprisingly, however, the player suddenly had a change of heart after his father stopped further talks with the Under-23 coach.
The Dream Team manager, Siasia expressed disappointment when he found that Iwobi would no longer be available for Nigeria’s Olympic squad after naming him in his official list.
The former Super Eagles coach is not happy with Alex father for failing to keep his promises concerning the availability of the player for the Rio trip.
“I tried to call his father but he’s not picking my calls. He used to call me frequently when he wanted his son to play for Nigeria. But now that we need his son to play for Nigeria he is not picking my calls. There’s no problem. Alex remains my boy any day. There’s no problem,” Siasia said.
