On Sunday, June 13, the unexpected happened in the Jewish nation of Israel. Its the longest serving prime minister in the Mid-East nation, was defeated by a motley coalition of parties in a rather shocking manner.

In the new coalition government, approved by the Israel, Right-wing nationalist Naftali Bennett, of Yamina party, emerged as the new Prime Minister and he will be in office until September 2023, as part of a power-sharing deal. He will then hand over to Yair Lapid, leader of the Centrist Yesh Atid party for another two years.

Netanyahu narrowly lost the top job by a lone vote of 60-59.

However, Netanyahu will continue to lead the right-wing Likud party as the opposition leader.

Netanyahu said during debate in the KnessetSpeaking for di Knesset (parliament) that “ if it is the our destiny to be in the opposition, we will do it with our head high a until we defeat this government and return Israel to the country of our people’s choice”.

But Bennett did not return fire for fire. He rather thanked Netanyahu for his service to the nation and promised never to allow Iran develop and have nuclear weapons.
