A little drama ensued on Wednesday afternoon at the bus terminal of Magodo Phase 2, Lagos, when a young lady accused one of the bus drivers of robbery.
Our correspondent, who was stuck at the bus terminal alongside other residents and visitors, said the drivers had to stop work to fish out the suspect, as the robbery incident was regarded a dent on the drivers doing business in the estate.
The Point’s correspondent, a woman, said: “We waited for, at least, an hour as there were no other means of transportation in Magodo other than the shuttle buses. Most of the passengers couldn’t hide their anger.”
The Point’s correspondent , explaining the events that led to the brief shutdown, said one of the passengers alleged that she was robbed inside a shuttle bus on the estate. She added that some security operatives accompanied her to the terminal.
“According to her, the bus driver might be aware of the robbery because he was chatting with the people. All the drivers were not happy about the development. They then summoned all the drivers working at the terminal for an identification parade to enable the lady to identify the suspect. But when the drivers assembled, the lady couldn’t identify the suspect. She was obviously confused. The drivers were miffed and expressed anger at the waste of their time. ”
The Point later learnt that the lady was on her way back from a bureau de change when she was robbed. She was said to have lost a huge amount of money.
Efforts to make a security officer in Magodo to speak on the issue was abortive. The man who declined to give his name said he couldn’t make any comment at the moment. As no one is certain yet on what happened, we cannot say anything.”
