The Oyo State government has revealed that plan to register residents of the state, as part of efforts to address the persisting insecurity challenges.
The Special Assistant on ICT and E-governance to the Oyo Governor, Bayo Akande, disclosed this during a press briefing at the governor’s office, Ibadan on Tuesday.
Akande revealed that the exercise, tagged, “Oyo State Residents Registration Programme” was aimed at aiding government’s planning.
He expressed optimism that the exercise would also help government further spread its tax net.
He said, “It is a programme that involves the enumeration and registration of all residents of Oyo State. This is in a bid to secure the state to know the people coming in and out of the state, and this will enable the government to plan more effectively.
“This will also help in revenue collection so that we can bring in more residents under the Oyo State tax net.”
Also present at the briefing was the state Commissioner of Finance, Akinola Ojo, who confirm the sack of the Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue, John Adeleke.
No particular reason was given for the sack. The Finance Commissioner said Governor Seyi Makinde, only exercised his right to hire and fire any of his appointees.
