Industrial court begins sitting in Ogun

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abeokuta Division, marked a historic milestone on Monday, January 27, 2025, as it held its maiden sitting at its new premises located within the High Court Complex, Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The establishment of the Abeokuta Judicial Division is part of efforts led by the President of the NICN, Justice Benedict Kanyip, to strengthen the administration of labour justice in Ogun State and foster industrial harmony in accordance with international best practices.

In a speech delivered on behalf of Justice Kanyip by the Chief Registrar, Olurotimi Daudu, the President emphasised the significance of the new division.

“This inauguration marks a new chapter in the pursuit of industrial justice in Ogun State. We encourage members of the Bar to utilize this division to ensure the timely and effective dispensation of justice,” he said.

The inaugural sitting was presided over by Justice Sanda Yelwa, who conducted proceedings for the first case, a Motion Exparte in suit no. NICN/AB/13/2024 filed by the Claimant’s counsel.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of the Deputy Chief Registrar from Lagos and staff members of the NICN Abeokuta Division.

The Abeokuta Division’s inauguration was NICN’s commitment to bringing justice closer to the people and addressing labour and employment disputes efficiently. Justice Kanyip’s administration continues to advocate for measures that promote industrial harmony and enhance the judiciary’s accessibility across Nigeria.
