The newly sworn-in governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has assured the workers in the state that his administration would prioritise their welfare and pay their salaries and pension deductions on time.

Abiodun  made the disclosure shortly after meeting with the state Head of Service, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu; permanent secretaries and security chiefs at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The governor, who said his administration had just begun the business of government, tasked the workers  to buy into his vision of “good governance,” promising to create enabling working environment for the private sector to invest.

Abiodun, however, said that he would extend his vision for good governance to the local government areas by granting them the autonomy to perform their functions as enshrined in the constitution in order to better the lives of the citizens of the state

“We have begun the business of government and we are settling in. I want to tell the workers that I have confidence in them and I want them to buy into the vision of our government and key in.

“Good governance is a priority for us here. We are not only going to ensure that we empower our local governments but we are also going to strengthen them so that they can perform their functions as entrenched in the constitution.

“We must ensure that we pay salaries on time and pay salary arrears. We must ensure that we pay and remit pension deductions or you will not be taken seriously by both national and international funding organisations and multinational agencies.

“We are going to be an effective government and well organised about everything we do. I shared with the workers our vision of creating an enabling environment for the public and private sectors to come in and invest in the state,” he said.

He said his administration would place premium on road maintenance in rural and township areas as well as focus on primary and tertiary education.

He stated, “We have the largest number of tertiary institutions in this state, however, the performances of our students are not encouraging and we have to change that so we may be declaring a state of emergency in the education sector.”

He assured the people of the state that his government would do everything possible to improve the economy of the state and create industrial hub in every district so as to transform the lives of the citizens.
