Kelechi Iheanacho, who is on loan from Sevilla, opened the scoring for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 Championship victory over Oxford United at the weekend.
Iheanacho had not scored in seven Championship games for Michael Carrick’s team before the game, and it was his first goal since December 2024, when he scored for Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
Three minutes into the second half, the 28-year-old tied the score for Boro by hammering the ball into the roof of the net after a cross from the left wing.
After the Super Eagles star was substituted in the 75th minute, Brazilian defender Neto Borges scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute.
Boro’s promotion play-off hopes have been bolstered by the victory, as they now sit seventh with 57 points.
They share the same goal total with West Bromwich Albion, who are in sixth place, the last play-off berth, and have more goals than Boro.
