A member of the National Assembly, Senator Ben Uwajimogu, has advised his Igbo kinsmen to concentrate on investing more in their homeland rather than outside.
The Senator, who currently represents Okigwe Senatorial District of Imo State at the National Assembly, said investing more at home would fast-track the development of the South East geo-political zone the homestead of the Igbo people.
The lawmaker said this in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, while speaking to our correspondent against the backdrop of rising unemployment, youth restiveness, economic and political agitations confronting the
area.
The Igbo should create fall back platforms for themselves and future generations when they return home
“Let us not forget that the Igbo are in the forefront of self-development. So, what I am saying is that we should begin to establish industries here, invest more in the South East geopolitical zone immediately,” Uwajimogu
said.
The senator said by investing in their homeland, Igbo in the Diaspora would be contributing their quota to the efforts at addressing the challenges and creating fallback platforms for themselves and the future generations, when they return
home.
He added that such investments needed not be in billions to create the desired result, but they must be borne out of “thinking East and thinking home, so that we can develop the economic latent potential of the
zone.”
The lawmaker vowed not to relent on the campaign saying, “If you look at the developments we have in Igboland, much of it have always been driven by the people themselves.”
He noted that as a campaigner for investment in the homeland, he had business ventures in both Abia and Imo states, saying the ventures had created employment opportunites for the people and had impacts on the host
communities.
Uwajimogu, who is the proprietor of a three-star hotel in Umuahia, said even as a lawmaker, he had been contributing to the development of his immediate environment in both human capacity-building and
empowerment.
