For most actresses, sacrificing their acting career for marriage is a no-go area. But at some point in the life of Nollywood actress, Mary Uranta, she left her love for acting to be with a man.
Uranta, speaking with our correspondent, said she came into the industry at a time when no man would gladly allow his girlfriend to act. According to her, things have changed now and ladies are given free hands by their men.
She stated, “Being in a relationship and acting was a problem when I came into Nollywood. Then too, parents didn’t want their children to act. Some men would even tell you to choose between them and your career. When I chose my partner instead of my career and it didn’t work out, I had to come back to Nollywood to do what l love.”
Admitting that she has never been sexually molested directly, she, however, said it happens in all industries.
“I have never been sexually harassed directly or so, but in every place you find yourself, you meet people chasing you as a young woman. So, it is not a new thing in Nollywood, the banking sector or anywhere,” she said.
An easy going lady, she stated that being simple does not mean she cannot act rough or rude roles even though most directors prefer to cast her for soft roles.
She recalled, “What makes you a good actor is being able to diversify. You should not be judged by your look or person. Being an actor does mean you have to be rude or rough. You can be yourself and still play unbelievable roles.
“Even with male fans who admire me, I push them away stylishly. You don’t have to be rude to anyone because they make you. They are your fans and the reason I am Uranta.”
