The immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Oyegun, has said hinted of the possibility of his intervention to check the current crisis rocking the ruling party.

Oyegun said he might be wading in to resolve the problems that had resulted in the gale of defections that had hit the APC in recent times.

Several APC lawmakers in the National Assembly and some states as well as three state governors have left the party for the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress.

Following this development, it was learnt that the leadership of the ruling party reached out to Oyegun as part of the efforts to stop the defection of more chieftains and members from the ruling party.

But when contacted by our correspondent, Oyegun, who was reluctant to comment on the development in APC, said his intervention would soon be noticed by all party members across the country soon.

“I will talk soon. I am not in a position yet to say anything. I am no longer a spokesperson in any respect. Do not worry; the time will come when I can talk and wade in. Let me settle down. Even my followers know that I cannot now and will not tell me to talk now. You have made so much effort. I will talk soon,” the former APC national chairman said.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan, has carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari and the current National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, over their leadership style.

Ologbodiyan said that the leadership style of the President was laced with incompetence, which led to the massive defection of APC members to the opposition parties.

“Everybody is coming to PDP because the incompetence of President Muhammadu Buhari is manifest. Everyone has seen this. Nigerians have resolved to move forward without him,” he said.

On Senate President Bukola Saraki, the PDP spokesman said insistence by Oshiomhole that Saraki should resign was out of ignorance.

“The National Assembly is guided by rules and convention and there is a constitution. We urge the APC, who are claiming they have majority on the floor, to await the position of the Senate rules, particularly section 12 of the Senate rules. This provides for how the Senate can reconvene what it has adjourned since all these days,” he said.

He advised the APC chairman to learn to be a politician and not a unionist.

“Oshiomole cannot differentiate between unionism, politics and democratic laws. It is the truth. We are talking about democracy, where there are rules, orders, conventions that guide the Senate and the House of Representatives? We are not talking about rabble-rousing but command structures. He is not an executive governor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; he must limit himself to the provisions of the rules, constitution and the Senate standing rule. We are not in a barracks. The Federal Republic of Nigeria is not Edo State, where he
can tell you to go and die. This is Nigeria, no matter what, you need to contend them with the rules of the Federation.”

“It is rather unfortunate that some of the senators, who have the responsibility of protecting our democracy, are being mentioned in disgraceful acts of plotting to break into the chamber.”
