Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said his decision to travel out of the state ahead of his administration’s one-year anniversary was because he needed a break from work and to also check his health.

The governor marked one year in office on Monday.

The opposition All Progressives Congress in the state had alleged that Adeleke travelled abroad to evade giving an account of his stewardship.

The APC, in a statement by its Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, alleged that Adeleke had run the state aground since taking the mantle of leadership on November 27, 2022.

Lawal accused the governor of lying about his whereabouts following claims by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that Adeleke had gone on a working vacation to Europe and Asia.

According to Lawal, Adeleke fled abroad because he was afraid of facing the people after he mismanaged the revenue accrued to the state since last year.

But speaking in a phone-in programme on a radio station in Osogbo, Adeleke called on the people of the state not to fall for the APC propaganda.

The governor noted that apart from taking a leave to rest and check his health, he also travelled to meet investors and attract investments to the state.

He disclosed that he was in Thailand at the time of speaking.

He replied the opposition party saying, “You must agree with me that all this time, I have been working and working and I need a break. That is what I am doing. To make sure I am fit because health is wealth.

“Also, I came here (abroad) to check some investors. They have been coming to Nigeria and I feel I need to also come here to meet them to attract investment to Osun State.

“We are here to work and serve. We don’t cut off and we are not falling for all their propaganda. When they go low, we go high.”
