SUNDAY OLADEJO

The holy matrimony between Lanre Akofe and his wife, Yemisi, has finally hit the rocks as both of them have been ordered to go their separate ways. Lanre Akofe, while presenting his case in a customary court in Lagos, said his wife was a flirt, adding that he caught her red-handed with his landlord making love. He also accused his wife of being a cult member “an Ifa oracle worshipper.”

“For the love I had for her, I had to join her in worshipping Ifa-the god of divination, in spite of the fact that it was contrary to my belief and wish,” he declared. The embattled husband said he was surprised when he saw his wife, using beads that had been dedicated to Ifa oracle round her waist without his prior knowledge.

In her response, Yemisi told the court that when she travelled to her village, during the Sallah festival, her husband’s family members accused her of being barren. They, therefore, introduced her to another woman who they said was her husband’s new wife. She told the court that when she returned from her journey, she reported the matter to her father who appealed to her not to be troubled about the situation, adding that her father gave her beads that had been dedicated to the Ifa oracle for her use.

The court dissolved the marriage, while the husband was ordered to pay a sum of N300,000 to his wife as compensation.
