Few days ago, the picture of the immediate past Mr. Nigeria, Matthew Monday, with a mad woman, flooded the internet. In the picture, a mad woman posed with him calmly. This is a rare scenario.
Certain people have, however, questioned the credibility of the picture and its source, adding that it could all be made-up for publicity. But, in an encounter with The Point, Matthew insisted that the picture was not madeup, stressing that there was no way he would go to that extent to attract publicity for himself.
He said, “There have been comments, but I have sent the message I wanted to send. It is normal for people to make comments in Nigeria, positive or negative.
On Nairaland, some people were encouraged, some were inspired and some said it was a lie.
For the second shoot, the woman pulled off her clothe, and used just her bra. That was the biggest surprise because no one asked her to do it. “Why would I go to that extent for publicity? It is Nigeria; a lot of people would surely talk.
You can check my Instagram page and see what I have been doing. People who know me know what I can do.”
Explaining the circumstances that led to being put up with the mad woman, he said it happened at the Oniru Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos. He went for a photo-shoot. While he was still changing and making preparations, he saw a mad woman coming towards their direction.
He explained, “When she came, people tried to chase her away. I felt so sad, as the old woman looked hungry and tired. When I got close to her, she was calmed. I sat down with her and we talked. I gave her money, which she refused at first but later took it when I persisted.
“When I stood up to leave, she followed. I then told my photographer to feature her in the shoot. She posed on the floor by herself and she looked healthy and happy. But when I was leaving, she looked down again.
For me, it is about love that we show to others, regardless of the position we find ourselves.” Admitting that he thought the mad woman would attack him, he did not move closer without thinking of an escape route. He had visited the beach again, but the woman was not there.
