A mother of one, simply identified as Barakah, has confessed to cheating on her husband with another man because the former could no longer feed her well.
Barakah explained how her husband, Bayo, used to care for her and give her money daily to fend for her needs, but claimed the daily upkeep from her husband was no longer forthcoming.
The resident of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, said she was tired of suffering in her husband’s house, a situation that forced her into the arms of another man.
Giving her defence on a radio programme that strives to settle domestic disputes and monitored by The Point, Barakah said she had endured hunger and lack since May last year when the tricycle (Keke Napep) that Bayo operates was withdrawn from him by those who gave him the tricycle on higher purchase.
“He used to give me money before but since May last year, I have been suffering in his house. The people he collected the tricycle came to our house and retrieved the tricycle from him. Ever since, it has been difficult for us to feed.
“Things have gone unbearable that I had to go to a motor park to hawk pure water. Even when we struggled to borrow the sum of N80, 000 for him to get another tricycle, he could not still perform his duty of taking care of me. Whenever I asked him for money, he would say he doesn’t have money. I met the man who started giving me money and taking care of me at the park where I was hawking pure water. I slept with him and I later discovered I was pregnant for him,” Barakah said.
Lamenting, Bayo denied starving his wife, saying he used to give her the sum of N2, 500 daily for feeding.
He expressed shock that at the time Barakah was denying him of his conjugal right; she was busy making out with another man.
“I have been trying my best since I married her. I do give her N2, 500 every day and even most times, I used to buy things for her without her prompting me to do so. I will come home at night and ask my wife to allow us to make love, she will chase me out of bed.
“If not that neighbours were discussing my wife’s pregnancy, I wouldn’t have known she was pregnant for another man,” Bayo said.
