An Ile-Ife, Osun State Customary Court has dissolved a 21-year-old marriage between Mr. Samson Adebisi and Mrs. Adetutu Adebisi over constant fighting.
Adetutu, who dragged her husband, Samson, to the court, accused him of threatening to kill her each time there was a disagreement.
She claimed that her husband was in the habit of beating her, accusing him of not taking proper care of her and their children.
Adetutu further said that her husband would not allow her to have peace of mind and would always threaten to kill her without any justifiable reason.
According to the plaintiff, “Although our family helped us to settle our disputes, he won’t stop beating me to the extent of throwing my belongings out of the house, asking me to leave his house and never to come back.”
But the defendant said he beats his wife because she had formed the habit of associating with divorcees.
“So, I only beat her whenever she fails to comply with my instructions. She is always the cause of our fights, she associates herself with divorced women and I don’t like it. I don’t beat her for no reason as she is claiming,” he explained.
He agreed with his wife that they should part ways, adding that Adetutu had caused a lot of problems between him and his family members.
The President of the Court, Chief Moses Owoyomi, dissolved the union and awarded the custody of their two children to Adetutu.
“After much persuasion of the couple to settle, both of them insisted on dissolution; the marriage is dissolved with immediate effect,” Owoyomi said.
The court also ordered the plaintiff not to refund dowry to the defendant.
