…abandons her for first wife

A 36-year-old housewife, Helen Owie, a native of Benin, Edo State, on Tuesday at the Asaba High Court, Delta State, broke down in tears, asking the court to help recover a sum of €550,000 (about N250m) from her estranged husband, one Chidi Ike, who allegedly duped her in a phoney foreign trip deal.

Helen started crying while she was being cross-examined by her counsel, Mr. Raphael Okhouoleigbe, saying, “I got a contact from one of my customers around New Benin Market in Benin City, where I was then a trader way back in 2009. The contact, one Obinna, later introduced me to my estranged husband, Chidi.”

On how the relationship started, the housewife, who claimed she knew nothing about Chidi, said, “I showed interest that I would marry his brother after we must have discussed and my photograph was sent to Chidi. Three weeks later, Chidi and I met and we started planning marriage. In the process, I travelled back to Italy where I had stayed for over 20 years before coming to Nigeria, and in 2012, Chidi and I got married.
