If not for providence, some residents of Oniwoye, Denro in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, would have become victims of an auto crash without venturing out of the confines of their homes.

It was only God that save some residents oblivious of what was about to happen within the area. As they savoured their weekend, which was nearing its end inside their houses, a truck fully loaded with cement, lost its break and rammed into a building with a row of shops in its frontage.

The incident, which took all the residents of the area by surprise, occurred around 7pm.

But for the fact that they closed earlier that day, the owner of one of the shops and her children would have been caught in the
accident.

The driver is supposed to be punished for the offence, because he was warned by his assistant about the slippery road, but he refused to heed the warning before the accident occurred

According to some residents and neighbours, the accident occurred about 30 minutes after the shop owner and her children had closed for the day and left for home.

“It was barely 30 minutes after the woman and her children left their shop that the accident occurred. Thnak God that they probably had a premonition of what was about to happen and they left before the accident caused by break failure occurred,” a resident said.

A commercial motorcycle rider, who also witnessed incident but pleaded anonymity, said that the truck almost crushed two of his colleagues while the driver was struggling to control the vehicle after its break failed.

“It was God that saved two of our people this evening. Both of them were almost crushed to death by the truck, but for God that helped the driver to divert his steering the other way. While the okada men were trying to dodge and escape the oncoming truck, they fell inside the drainage by the roadside. But the truck was still coming towards them without a break. But with God on their side, the driver managed to divert the truck towards another direction, where it rammed into that shop,” he said.

Police operatives from Adigboluja Division later came to the scene to maintain law and order.

Also recounting how the accident occurred, a resident, who simply identified himself as Kunle, said, “The driver is supposed to be punished for the offence, because he was warned by his assistant about the slippery road, but he refused to heed the warning before the accident occurred. When he was coming, we were all watching, because it first swerved as if it wanted to fall, but later gained balance. But shortly after this, we just saw it moving in the direction of that house while the driver was shouting on top of his voice. At the end, the driver had to resort to use the shop to halt the truck, which had already totally lost its break so that it would not cause more havoc than that.
