The incident, which caused serious traffic gridlock on the road, attracted the attention of both residents and officials of LASTMA, who asked the driver to pull over his vehicle and convey the injured lady to a hospital.

But the driver, in what people described as a wicked act, decided to speed off in an attempt to escape from the scene of the accident.

LASTMA officials immediately gave the hit-and-run driver a hot chase on their motorbikes. They eventually caught up with him and arrested him.

The eyewitness said, “The driver hit the lady while she was trying to cross the road. LASTMA officials apprehended him and asked him to park his car so that he could take the lady to the hospital for treatment. He pretended at first as if he wanted to attend to his injured victim.

“But he deceived the people and when he noticed that they had temporarily forgotten about him, he jumped into his vehicle and sped off in high speed from the scene of the accident.

“But the LASTMA officials, too, quickly jumped on their motorbikes and gave him a chase. Eventually, they double-crossed him and arrested him. He would have completely escaped justice, but thank God, they arrested him and I’m sure they will prosecute him. He’s a very wicked man.”

He said that the injured was also rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for urgent medical attention.
