Hotel employee arraigned for stealing guest’s phone

A 23-year-old hotel employee in Osun State, Adedeji Ismail, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a phone belonging to a guest, who lodged at the hotel.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ona Glory, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 1, 2020 around 7:00 am at King and Rose Hotel, Orona area, Modakeke-Ife.

Glory said that the defendant stole an Infinix Hot phone valued at N38,000.

The phone belonged to one Solomon Blessing.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to one-count charge of stealing.

The defence counsel, Mr. Babawale Omodogbe, pleaded with the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal term.

He pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Joseph Owolawi granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Owolawi added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction as well as provide three recent passport photographs of his.

He adjourned the case until June 4 for mention.
