A ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Dagbongbo village of Isokan Local Government Area of the state on Saturday morning.
PDP Candidate for Osun West Senatorial District, Akogun Lere Oyewunmi, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Ikire , saying the ward chairman, whose name he could not recall as at the time of speaking, was shot dead very close to the voting area in the village.
He however called on the Police to investigate the killing, saying it occurred just before the commencement of voting exercise.
The senatorial candidate commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for early commencement of the voting exercise.
He also said that security agencies were being orderly in their conduct, saying aside the alleged killing of the party ward chairman, elections had been going on peacefully.
On his chances for victory at the poll, Oyewunmi said “we have done our best and we pray to God to crown our efforts with success.”
