In the last 24 hours, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted two persons along Ugwuogo -Nike -Opi -Nsukka Road in Enugu State.

While Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, a senior lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday morning, a Federal Road Safety Corps official identified as Emeason Chima was abducted earlier last Saturday.

Both were whisked away by some armed men along the same route.

Ujam, who is the Dean, School of General Studies of the university is in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry.

At the time of filing this report, the suspected kidnappers had not reached out to his relatives for ransom.

Chima, who is attached to RS4.211, Ugbokolo Unit of the FRSC was kidnapped around Maduka University in the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, while he was driving alone in a Toyota saloon car.

His captors have demanded a ransom of N50 million to release him.

An unconfirmed report also claimed that occupants of a commercial bus were also abducted on the same road on Friday.

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the Enugu State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Command’s spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, could not be reached on the telephone.

The development has thrown residents of Nsukka in panic as travellers who are in the know of the rising abduction ply other routes to avoid being victims.

Concerned residents called on the Enugu State Government and security agencies to tackle the menace.
