NO fewer than two police officers were reportedly killed on Saturday when suspected bandits attacked the Umulowo Police Division, in Imo State.

The unidentified gunmen who stormed the area in the early hours were said to have carted away arms, while residents were gripped with fear.

It was learnt that about four other officers were injured in the attack while the bodies of the officers who were killed were said to have been taken to the morgue.

Eyewitnesses said some police officers revealed to them that the gunmen attacked the police station with the sole aim of getting ammunition to operate somewhere in Umuahia.

“They (gunmen) took some arms, killed some officers, injured others in the attack and hurriedly left the scene before the policemen could call for reinforcement,” an eyewitness said.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation had commenced.
