Group organises boxing competition to groom talented boxers for Nigeria

A group, Yucateco Boxing Promotions, has commenced a boxing competition aimed at discovering and grooming talented boxers for Nigeria ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics Games.

Osogbo, the capital of Osun State will on Friday, September 6, 2024, play host to the Yucateco Boxing League Season 2 Week 5 round.

The competition, which is gradually shaping up for some pugilists will hold at Freedom Park Osogbo at 5pm.

“This time, the widely followed boxing train will be Live at Freedom park Osogbo Osun state for yet another thrilling round of contest,” the Technical Director of the Yucateco Boxing League, Babatunde Laguda, said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said residents of Osogbo and its environs are all invited for a brilliant display of mettle and mastery by several boxers on the fight card free of charge.

According to Laguda, the focus of the promotion remains fixated on grooming the next generation of boxers that will win medals for Nigeria at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics games.

“We still have over 20 fight weeks left in the season, we have just completed week 4, week 5 begins in Osogbo and you can see for yourself that the boxers are not slowing down.

”Let me tell you for a free, this is the project that will change the narrative of boxing in Nigeria, mark my words, some of this boxers will not only represent Nigeria at the next Olympic,” he stated.
