A group, Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation has bemoaned what it termed worrisome security situation in Ekiti State, calling on the state government to facilitate military posts at boundaries of the state.
There had been pockets of assassination of innocent residents of the state in recent times.
In June this year alone, within 48 hours, four persons were gunned down in Ado-Ekiti by unidentified assailants. A union executive of commercial motorcyclists was killed by gunmen at Okesha area of Ado Ekiti in broad daylight.
Also, a Point of Sale operator identified as Alfa was shot around specialist Hospital, Ado Ekiti, while the assailants reportedly made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Few hours later, another person was shot at Oja Bisi in Ado Ekiti. The deceased was a rice hawker who was shot on the head. Also, in the evening of that day, another POS operator was shot dead in Idemo.
It was observed that the same pattern the first bike fee collector was shot at Oke-Isa was the same way the other three deceased were killed. The perpetrators were said to be on motor bikes with their faces covered with black cloth.
While residents were still grappling with the tension the killings have generated, gunmen penultimate Saturday went on rampage and abducted three travellers in Emure.
The attackers also killed one late Mr. Taiwo Oluwole, the husband of one of the captives.
A source who pleaded anonymity, said the incident occurred in the evening along Emure-Supare Road in Emure.
Recall that some pupils of Apostolic Faith Children School were kidnapped at the same spot in January this year and the bus driver late Mr. Olugbaye was killed.
Sources said Oluwole and his wife were returning to Akure after attending a family event in Emure when their vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was ambushed.
Oluwole was hit by a bullet and his wife, along with two other occupants of the car, was subsequently kidnapped.
Reacting, the founder of the foundation and a UK military man, Opeyemi David Falegan condemned killings and abduction of innocent people by unknown gunmen in the state.
He warned of dire consequences should the situation remain unchecked.
“Security is critical to development and the wellbeing of citizens. No society can achieve any meaningful progress in an atmosphere of continuous fear and intimidation. I believe the protection of life and property should naturally top the priority list of any government
“Unfortunately, our people have lived for an unusually long period, under this incessant attack and intimidation from hoodlums and kidnappers. But, we cannot continue to live in perpetual fear. Ekiti people have a right to the dividends of democracy, and provision of security should be the starting point,” he said.
While warning sponsors of terror in the state to desist, the security expert advised the state governor to facilitate a military post at interstate boundaries of the state, urging the state government to empower and equip all the security agencies and machineries in the state.
