A group, Amalgamated Ngboejeogu Youth, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has condemned the alleged invasion of Ngbo Central Security office and gruesome murder of a female guard, Onwe Blessing Onana among other damages by unidentified gunmen.
Publicity Secretary of the group, George Umeh, while speaking with journalists, expressed worry that the killing happened few months after the alleged murder of one Elom Chinonso, better known as Oscar in a similar circumstance in the same community.
The group decried the absence of vigilante or security checkpoints in the entire ten autonomous communities of Ngbo and pledged to work closely with government authorities, the Ngbo Leaders Council as well as all concerned persons to ensure that the yet-to-be identified gunmen are apprehended and brought to justice.
It called on the Commissioner of Police in the state, Augustina Ogbodo to hasten efforts on the resuscitation of the Police Area Command and the establishment of an effective community policing in the area to avert reoccurrence.
“The Amalgamated Ngboejeogu Youth condemns in the strongest terms the armed attack in the office of Ngbo Central Security at Ngbo Court on Monday 15/01/2024, which resulted to the gruesome murder of a member of Ngbo Central Security outfit Mrs. Onwe Blessing Onana,” it said.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Odono Ikechukwu regretted that the attack on Monday claimed the life of a security personnel, left one injured, some property and a motorcycle carted away by the hoodlums.
“Sorrowfully, we mourn and console the families of the departed security personnel that lost her life in active duty, the one that is injured, operatives of Ngboejeogu Central Security, Ngboejeogu Clan, and entire Ohaukwu,” he stated.
He noted that effort had been put in place by security operatives to ensure that the culprits of the heinous crime were nabbed.
According to him, “Our resolve to achieve peace in Ohaukwu Local Government can never be undermined by anybody. We urge our people to be vigilant in their environment and report any illegal movement to the nearest police station.”
