Governor Ododo signs N582.4bn 2025 budget into law

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo on Monday, signed into law the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N582.4 billion, with a promise to actualise the full implementation of the provisions contained therein.

Ododo, flanked by the Speaker, other principal officers of the State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, and other government functionaries, signed the bill at the Glass House, Lokoja.

He assured that the state government would focus on the implementation of the budget as approved by the State Assembly.

He said the budget would address key sectors of the state economy, such as Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Agriculture, and also create gainful employment opportunities for the teeming youth in the state.

According to him, the assent has given the state government the necessary legal frame to commence the execution of viable capital projects for the upliftment of the living condition of the people.

The 2025 budget estimates, totaling N582,404,119.489, represent a 43.34% increase from the revised 2024 budget of N406,321,130,013.

Governor Ododo commended members of the State Assembly for their commitment to the development of the state as exemplified in their contributions through personal sacrifice and time.

He also lauded the lawmakers for the quick passage of the appropriation bill into law, noting that this was a fallout of the cordial and harmonious relationship amongst the three tiers of government.

Presenting the Appropriation Bill for the Governor’s assent, the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Yusuf commended the governor, for his unrivaled budgetary compliance and resource allocation to critical sectors in the 2025 appropriation bill.

“After an objective and Inclusive Legislative consideration of the various Budgetary provisions and Expenditure on the 2024 Budget Approval; and the proposed Fund allocation as contained in year 2025 Estimates, the House finds it exceedingly expedient to commend your Excellency for your unrivaled Budgetary Compliance and allocation of Fund to most critical sectors of the state in year 2025.

“As I wish on behalf of the House, to commend your Excellency for your diligence on the State Finances in accordance with Budgetary provisions, it is my pledge that the House will in its usual spirit of Unity, provide the needed Legislative support in ensuring the achievement of the desired Inclusive Development of Kogi State,” he said.

The Speaker appealed to the governor to spread the implementation of the budget across the nooks and crannies of the State for inclusivity.

“While also appealing to your Excellency to spread your proposed inclusivity of Development in Kogi State to the various State Constituencies through the State Constituency Projects for the State Legislators,” Yusuf appealed.

Recall that Governor Ododo had on December 3, presented an appropriation bill of over N582 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.

Tagged Budget of ‘Inclusive Development’, Ododo had explained that it was proposed to ensure reforms that will address the weakness in all sectors of the state’s economy.

According to him, the budget, a roadmap designed to transform the state into a thriving inclusive and sustainable economy, is a long term plan anchored on three pillars which are fostering prosperity, building resilience and providing direction.
