Governor Diri commends Bayelsa youths for staying peaceful amid nationwide protests

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has applauded the youths of the state for choosing not to join the ongoing nationwide protests.

While young people across Nigeria have been actively demonstrating under the #EndBadGovernance movement, Bayelsa’s youths have distinctively opted not to partake.

Governor Diri attributed this decision to their wisdom and sound judgment.

The Governor made these observations during his regular “prosperity walk,” an initiative designed to enhance the connection between the government and the community.

The walk kicked off at the Bayelsa State Government House on Thursday morning, with Governor Diri, alongside political aides, supporters, and local residents, moving through the major streets of Yenagoa and ending at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.

This event, which combines physical exercise with political dialogue, offered the Governor a platform to address current national events.

He commended Bayelsa’s youth for adhering to his advice to abstain from the protests, pointing out that their decision showed a commitment to peace and stability in the state.

Governor Diri expressed concerns about the origins of the protests, alleging that they were being stirred by politicians who lost in the 2023 governorship election.

He suggested that these individuals were trying to exploit the unrest to cause chaos in Bayelsa.

“These individuals do not have the welfare of the state at heart. They seek to disrupt the peace and progress we have been working hard to maintain,” Governor Diri remarked.

The event at the sports complex featured physical activities, with participants engaging in light exercises and stretches.

This segment of the walk highlights the administration’s emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyles among the people.

In his address, Governor Diri urged all Bayelsans to remain vigilant and reject any calls to join the protests.

He emphasized the importance of constructive engagement and development, encouraging citizens to focus on activities that contribute positively to the state’s progress.

“Our focus should be on building our state, not tearing it down through actions that only lead to instability,” he said.

The Governor’s message was clear: under his leadership, Bayelsa State values peace and orderly development.

He urged residents to continue their daily activities and reassured them that the government is actively addressing any concerns they may have.

As the event concluded, participants expressed their support for the Governor’s position, reaffirming their commitment to peace and development.

The day’s proceedings underscored a notable difference between the calm atmosphere in Bayelsa and the protests occurring in other parts of the country.
