In a bid to have first-hand information on services provided in hospitals across Borno State and to improve service delivery, Governor Kashim Shettima recently paid unscheduled visits to state-owned hospitals.
During one of such visits, the Governor attended a surgery session, after which he was briefed by the Medical Director of the state’s Eye, Ear and Dental Hospital, Dr. Falmata Kyari on the general affairs and challenges confronting the hospital.
The governor, during a closed doors meeting with the hospital’s management also sought to know things that were still actually needed, especially in the area of manpower, having equipped them with the state-of-the-art
facilities.
He directed the medical director to immediately submit the hospital’s requests and took his time to inspect facilities at the hospital
afterwards.
The medical director informed the governor that the hospital lacked adequate manpower to provide the required healthcare services to the people, adding that its facilities were being overstretched by the large number of patients attended to on daily basis.
She also made a request for the equipment not included in the list of those recently acquired as well as the provision of additional power source.
At the Dental Section, the governor also called for a submission of a comprehensive list of the areas of intervention, assuring that government would accord priority to the needs of the health
institution.
