Fashion, for Sylvia Edem, should not be all about brands or labels but what brings out the best in different individuals.

That has been her philosophy and she applies it not only to fashion, but everything she does in life.

The actress admits that though she loves to look expensive, she goes for what suits her and makes her comfortable.

“For me, fashion has to be comfortable. It is what fits me. I am not so much of a label person; I don’t really care about designers, ”she says.

Edem likes being simple and classy, when it comes to choosing what to wear, but will not expose her body, even in the name of fashion.

The producer of ‘Sandcastle,’ a new movie, explains, “I am not into skimpy wears. I don’t encourage going nude. I cannot be seen wearing things that expose my body; it is not even my style.”

When she goes shopping for clothes, she says she likes to look for those that are different or make bold statements, insisting that she goes beyond expectations and a long way in determining her way of dressing.

“I am a very courageous person and I wear things that are very courageous. I like to push the looks, do certain things that people don’t do. I like to break boundaries, boundaries on fashion that other people are afraid to break. I am a strong woman, focused, self-driven and I believe less is more,” Edem says.

She describes herself as a vintage person, who chooses white as her favourite colour. According to her, she always feels ‘very peaceful’ in white dresses and the colour looks good on her.

“There’s something about white I cannot explain. But I know I feel very comfortable in white,” the actress says.

You hardly see her without having a wrist watch on. She actually insists that she cannot do without a wrist watch because it complements her accessories.

“I cannot do without my wrist watch because I love wrist watches and there is something about watches I cannot explain. I spend money on wrist watches. I have lots of watches but Michael Kors is my favourite,” she says.

She uses Coco Chanel perfume because, according to her, it’s strong, smells nice and brings out her personality.

There is tendency for one to conclude that Edem recorded all her achievements on a platter of Gold. But that is far from the truth.

She once hawked plantain and garri flour on the streets of Cross River State to support her family.

But by dint of hard work and grace of God, she has been able to make a difference and contribute her share to movie production in Nigeria.

‘Sandcastle’ is her second production.
