Glo lauds ‘Dream Team VI’ for salvaging Nigeria at Rio

Globacom, the next generation network has commended the national Under-23 team’ Dream Team’ for picking bronze medal at the just-concluded 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
The Company in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday commended the team for making Nigeria and Africa proud in Brazil as it was the only African football team that advanced to the semi-finals.
“We are delighted that the team recovered rapidly from their loss to Germany in the semi-final and rose to the occasion, winning the third place match, thus placing Nigeria on the medal’s table. We cherish their fighting spirit which made Nigeria to earn the only medal at the tournament,” Glo said.
“We also congratulate the Nigerian Football Federation for the moral support that propelled the team to victory,” Glo added.
The ‘Dream Team’ which defeated Honduras by three goals to two in the third place match emerged as the third best team in the tournament after Germany which picked silver and Brazil which won gold.
Nigeria has now won three medals in different Olympics football competitions, having picked gold in 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Silver in Beijing Olympics in 2008 and Bronze medal in Rio, Brazil in 2016.
The Samson Siasia-coached “ Dream Team VI” opened the Olympic campaign by defeating Japan by five goals to four and beat Sweden by a lone goal but lost their last group match by 0-2 to Colombia to top Group B with six points. However, two goals from the team captain, Mikel Obi and Aminu Umar ensured their triumph in the quarter-finals match against Denmark before losing to Germany by the same margin at the Semi-Finals.
