A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Okitipupa, Ondo State, has on ordered that a 15-year-old girl, Aina Ali, be given strokes of the cane for stealing a Bontel phone valued at N5,500.
The phone belonged to one Joshua Ajibade.
The Presiding Magistrate, Banjo Ayeomoni, who gave the order also warned the minor to desist from the act of stealing.
The magistrate noted that a thief had no place in the society.
The accused, who standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing, was later discharged and acquitted.
The prosecutor, Inspector Zedekiah Orogbemi, earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 17 around 4:00 pm at Oja Ale Street, Okitipupa.
He said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
