Ghanaian sprinter Azamati shines at New Mexico Team Open

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati started his 2025 season with a strong showing at the New Mexico Team Open, finishing second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.62 seconds.

He was edged out by American sprinter David Foster, who clocked 6.57 seconds to take the win.

Azamati’s performance marks a solid start to his indoor campaign as he builds momentum for the upcoming Millrose Games in New York City—one of the most prestigious indoor track meets in the world.

He is also set to compete at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, where he will look to further sharpen his speed and form.

Speaking after the race, Azamati expressed satisfaction with his start to the season but emphasized that there is still room for improvement.

“It feels great to be back on the track and competing at a high level. This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to getting even better as the season progresses,” he said.

The Ghanaian sprint star, who holds his Ghana’s national records in the 100m and 200m, is gearing up for a crucial year, with major championships on the horizon. His next few races will provide key insights into his form ahead of the outdoor
