Gian Piero Gasperini, coach of Atalanta, stated at the weekend that he has no plans to extend his contract with the Serie A team, but he would still look into the possibility of doing so until 2026.

Over his nine-year tenure, Gasperini has transformed Atalanta from a mid-table team to a Champions League regular, turning around the club’s fortunes since taking over as coach in 2016.

Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final last season to win the cup under the 67-year-old. Gasperini’s contract is set to expire in June 2025, with a one-year extension option.

Gasperini responded to reporters when asked if Atalanta, who now sit third in Serie A with 51 points from 25 games, might qualify for the Champions League this
season:
“I have little time to do this, maybe it’s the last one. “Rightly so, as has been said there is a beginning and an end, we’ll see at the endof the year whether to go for expiry or to stop, certainly there will be no continuity.

“There will be no further renewal andcontinuity.”

After finishing a second stint as Genoa’s manager, Gasperini, who began his coaching career with Juventus’ youth team, joined Atalanta.

After a 12-year hiatus from the top division, Genoa was promoted to Serie A in
2007 under Gasperini’s leadership.

He has also served as a coach at Palermo and Inter Milan.
