Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the “soul of the People’s Democratic Party in the state”.

Governor Fubara stated this while addressing members of the PDP Youth Leaders Forum during a courtesy visit to the Government House on Sunday.

The governor emphasized the need for loyalty, unity, and resilience to ensure the party’s continued strength and relevance.

“On our part, we are doing our best in the state to ensure that the true soul of the party is kept alive. And when I say the true soul, you understand that we are not adulterated—we are the true PDP, and we remain PDP. We are doing everything to make sure we stand strong.”

He acknowledged challenges within the party and explained that some decisions might have been misunderstood but were necessary to uphold good governance.

“There have been instances where our loyalty has been questioned, but desperate situations require desperate measures.

“So, maybe a few things we have done in the course of ensuring that we continue good governance might have been misinterpreted. However, that does not mean we are not PDP. We must ensure that our government moves forward.”

The governor also appealed for collective efforts to address internal party issues and promote national unity, stressing the importance of preserving Nigeria’s stability.

“We must all try as much as we can to ensure that the house remains standing because if the house doesn’t remain, I wonder what you are coming to claim,” he noted.

Commending the PDP Youth Leaders Forum for their initiative, Fubara expressed confidence in the contributions of young leaders to the party’s revival and assured them of his administration’s support.

“It’s not going to be an easy task, but we will support you to ensure you succeed,” he said.

The governor also urged party members to set aside ethnic and religious differences and work collectively toward the progress of the PDP and the nation at large.

On his part, the Chairman of the PDP Youth Leaders Forum, Jamilu Ali Kalshingi, commended Governor Fubara’s dedication to preserving the unity and integrity of the PDP.

Kalshingi expressed delight over the recent court judgments affirming the election of local government chairmen in Rivers State and the judgement nullifying the PDP congresses.

“That victory is not only for you and Rivers State but also for Nigeria, the youths, and the PDP,” Kalshingi remarked.

“We are also informed about the struggles, hard work, and round-the-clock efforts you have been making to salvage this party. I believe you are not doing this for yourself but for the future of Nigerians and the youths,” he added.

He noted the belief among ordinary Nigerians that the PDP remains the only party capable of steering the country toward progress.

He assured Governor Fubara of the PDP Youth Forum’s support in the ongoing efforts to restore the party’s unity and strength, describing the governor’s focus and resilience in the face of political challenges as exemplary.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary of the Forum, Brown Odey, praised Governor Fubara’s transformative leadership, which he said has inspired hope among Nigerian youths.

He emphasized the need for the PDP to operate equitably across all states and commended the newly constituted Acting Executive Committee in Rivers State for recognizing Governor Fubara as the leader of the party in the state.
