The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Prof. ‘Lanre Fagbohun (SAN), has indicated the institution’s plan to raise N10m infrastructural development funds through ‘Friends of LASU Initiative’ for maintenance and infrastructural development.
The VC spoke recently during the inauguration of the Friends of LASU Initiative committee at the university campus.
Fagbohun, in an address during the inauguration, said the Initiative was targeted at building a global community of donors and partners for varsity’s development.
The VC said, “The aim is to get development partners across the globe who will voluntarily donate as little as N1,000.00 $3 to $4) or more to Lagos State University annually.
“The generated fund would be solely for infrastructural development, maintenance of facilities, staff training, students’ welfare and research, among others.”
Prof. Fagbohun added that the Initiative would create a robust and sustainable revenue generation system for all-round development of the Institution.
Urging the committee members to deliver the responsibilities with passion and high sense of discipline, the VC said the revenue being generated through the medium would enhance the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the university.
The VC explained that the committee members were selected through a well-structured head hunt urged the committee to liaise with the Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) in the area of publicity.
In addition, he said administrative and academic duties should be done with passion in the interest of students, saying, “It is only by this that our world class students would consider giving back to the university.”
The Convener, Mr. Olabode Akinrinmade, on behalf of the committee members said the team would do its best in lifting LASU to the level of World Class Institution.
Among the target- donors are LASU staff, families, friends, students, parents, traders, Lagos based industries, Nigerians in Diaspora and the Lagos public.
