BREAKING:
Some persons have been reportedly killed while others were injured in Ijo-Ajegunle, a settlement in Esa-Oke town, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State over Obaship dispute.

Eyewitnesses’ accounts and videos of the attack revealed that many people were shot dead while others sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The incident happened on Monday morning.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the state had last week announced the appointment of one Timileyin Ajayi as Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle.

However, tension started building up on Friday, last week, after some settlers kicked against the appointment of Ajayi.

The protesters said Ajayi is not an indigene of Esa-Oke, claiming that he is of Ilesa town.

The disagreement resulted into pandemonium as some hoodlums who reportedly dressed in security outfit attire, stormed the area on Monday and started shooting sporadically.

Many were gunned down while others were injured severely.

A renowned broadcaster in Osun State, Dele Ajayi, said one of his siblings identified as Clement Ajayi was killed in the fracas.

“My brother Clement Ajayi has just been killed in Esa Oke,” he lamented in a message sighted by The Point.

He explained that, “Last week the Governor (Ademola Adeleke) announced the appointment of one Timileyin Ajayi as Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle, a settlement within Esa Oke. The people of Esa Oke rejected the appointment and vowed to resist the installation of a stranger as Baale on their territory.

“The youth in the town filed out last Friday to protest the appointment of the said Baale or Oba by governor Ademola Adeleke only to be confronted early today by fully armed policemen shooting sporadically.

“Reports from the town revealed that about 4 people have been killed while unspecified number of people were wounded.”
