Former Finance Minister, Wabi, joins board of Dangote Sugar

The Board of Directors of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc on Monday announced the appointment of Mrs. Yabawa Lawan Wabi as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Company.

Wabi served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister berween 2010 and 2011. She has served as Permanent Secretary in various Ministries, as Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Works & Housing, Borno State, and as Accountant General of Borno State.

Company Secretary, Mrs. Temitope Hassan in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited said Mrs. Wabi’s appointment was approved by the Board of Directors at its meeting held on February 28, 2023, while she resumed office with effect from March 1, 2023.

Her appointment according to the statement is however subject to ratification by the company shareholders at its next annual general meeting.

On what Mrs. Wabi has to offer, the statement said she is versatile and well accomplished with deep knowledge and experience in the Nigerian Public Sector.

Mrs. Wabi is a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.

She is a Member of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission and Non-Executive Director of the Board of several companies including Unity Bank Plc., Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc and Veritas Healthcare Ltd.

She is also a member of several Professional Bodies and Associations.

Expressing confidence on the value she will have to bring to the board, Mrs Hassan said, “The Board of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. warmly welcomes Mrs. Wabi, and has no doubt that she would bring with her the rich experience she has garnered in Finance, and a high degree of objectivity to the Board for sustaining stakeholder trust and confidence.”
