Gospel singer, Lanre Teriba, has in the past had a number of alleged controversies around his life and career feasted on by the media, ranging from committing adultery to impregnating other women.
But, in an encounter with our correspondent, he said though different people have different opinions about him, he does not care much about what people say.
He said, “I feel so bad whenever I read negative things about me because I have noticed that the media only write about scandals since I came to the limelight. When I completed my house in Lekki, Lagos, no one wrote about it. The only thing the media is interested in is Lanre Teriba and the opposite sex.”
He disclosed that he has done all he could do to keep his fans and private organisations that patronise him for shows. He, however, lamented that bad press has affected him immensely.
He said, “Some churches no longer like to hear my music or call me for concerts. And the only reason this is happening is because of what they had seen in the media. I plead with journalists to try and get the truth from me before writing.
“There is difference between journalism and hatred. What I have figured out is that certain people in the media have personal hatred for the kind of music I do. Till now, I don’t unders t a n d why I keep reading scandals, controversies about me.”
Teriba also added that one of the consequences of the unsavoury publications in the media is that his first child, a 21-year-old lady, who is studying in the United Kingdom, is now feeling some heat. “Whenever her friends at Oxford University in London, go online to read about her dad, she feels bad that all they see is his alleged affairs with some woman and all sorts of scandals. This does not make me happy,” he added.
