For 15 years, Jim Donnet has been studying m u s i c and the business of music. He has now released a sin- gle, ‘Him,’ along with visuals.
The journey to being a music act started in the church and at the university where he belonged to a group“, he reacted, All I did was to listen to songs and I imitated them. Along the line, I found my style.”
The new song, according to him, has been received well. And it has been a pleasant surprise because he did not expect it to go as far as it had gone.
“Everyone is used to a particular sound or genre of music in Nigeria. I do R&B or soul music, a genre that is not really accepted here. I am impressed with the reception I am getting and I know it would get better,” he said.
Fifteen years ago, Donnet admitted that he did not know anything about music. But he knew he had a good voice from the remarks of people around him.
“My father wanted me to be an engineer. I went to Covenant University to study engineering, but I still found myself doing music one way or the other. When I left school in 2012, I felt that there was no need to start putting my energy on a vocation I did not find fulfilment in. I knew it must be music, so I started putting necessary things in place,”
