Italian-Nigerian midfielder Michael Folorunsho’s solitary strike was all Hellas Verona needed to get the maximum points in their Serie A clash with Lecce at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero – Via del Mare.
Folorunsho opened the scoring in the 17th minute when he received a pass from Tomas Suslov outside the penalty area, before unleashing a thunderous strike past the goalkeeper.
According to statisticians at Opta, the 26-year-old has now scored three goals from outside the box in 2024, the most of any player in the top five leagues in Europe.
Folorunsho played the entire duration of the contest, attempted three shots, completed 65% of his passes and was the second-highest-rated player for Verona in the game, according to Whoscored.
He is on a season long loan from Napoli and this is sixth loan spell since joining the Serie A defending champions.
He has started all 26 games that he has been made available for selection for Verona in the Serie A this term, registering four goals and one assist.
With their victory at the weekend, the Yellow and Blues have now won back-to-back league games and sit 13th on the standings with 26 points.
