The Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Adewale Musa, has said that the dream of the centre is to establish a teaching hospital in the state.
According to him, 170 hectares of land had already been acquired for the project, which, when completed, would serve the people of the state and its environs.
Musa stated this during a visit by the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta to his office.
He added that the Federal Government had come to realise that the state hospital and Federal Medical Centre alone could not handle all health issues of the growing population of the state.
The CMD also said with the establishment of the teaching hospital, patients would not have to go far for further treatment, when referred from hospital.
Noting that that was the first time an incumbent vice-chancellor of FUNAAB would officially visit FMC, the CMD, therefore, pleaded for FUNAAB’s support towards the success of the project.
Responding, FUNAAB VC, Prof. Salako, commended the hospital for its unquantifiable contributions to qualitative health care delivery to students and staff of FUNAAB, pledging that the university would partner the FMC management in its bid to establish a Federal University Teaching Hospital in Ogun State.
According to him, the establishment of the teaching hospital would be a welcome development as it would enhance quality health care delivery services.
