Properties worth several millions of Naira were said to have been damaged in a midnight inferno that razed the Abeokuta, Ogun State house of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Mr Wale Olokode.

The incident was confirmed on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, SP Yemisi Opalola.

A statement made available to The POINT by Opalola read that the fire, which started around 6pm on Sunday, lasted for about 2 hours before being put out by firefighters.

The statement read, “No life was lost nor injury sustained during the inferno.”

It expressed gratitude to those who rallied round to ensure that the inferno was quelled.

“The Osun State Police Command appreciates the Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola; Mr Edward Ajogun Awolowo, Area Commander, Abeokuta metropolis, and everyone for sympathizing with the Commissioner of Police.

“The officers and men of the Osun State Police Command commiserate with the CP and the entire family and describe the incident as unfortunate and pathetic. It is the Command’s prayer that the Almighty God replenishes the loss in hundred folds.”

Meanwhile, the state government has sympathised with the Police chief on the incident.

A statement made available to journalists on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, read, “On behalf of the government and the people of Osun State, I sympathize with our Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, on this very unfortunate incident; we are indeed pained by it.

“We must also thank God that no life was lost in the incident. God who is the provider of all things will surely return everything lost to the inferno in double folds.”
