The Nigeria Government , under the Nigeria Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalization Programme (NIYEEDEP), has announced January 17, 2025 as the official launch date of the Young Farmers Registration Portal.

The initiative is part of a 24-month action plan to create 20 million jobs for Nigerian youth with a focus on entrepreneurship.

NIYEEDEP, which targets various sectors such as agriculture, technology, entertainment and renewable energy, includes the Youth Farmers Cooperative Programme, which aims to create 12 million young farmers in the next two years.

At the briefing in Abuja, the National Coordinator of NIYEEDEP, Kennedy Iyere, briefed the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, on the availability of the portal.

Iyere stressed that the platform will streamline the approval and awarding of awards to qualified applicants.

Addressing stakeholders including representatives of the United Funders Association and the African representative of Bayern Munich Football Club, Iyere said, “The program aims to empower Nigerian youths by creating direct employment in key sectors such as agriculture, food and beverage, technology, creative economy and sports.

He further stressed that the launch of the portal will allow Nigerian youths to apply for agricultural grants and other forms of assistance.

“The portal is scheduled to be launched on January 17, 2025 in Abuja,” Iyere added.

Youth Minister Ayodele Olawande stressed the need for transparency, urging the team to ensure the programme reaches its intended beneficiaries.

“Nigerian youths must see and feel the impact of this programme,” he said.
