FG to establish aircraft manufacturing hub in Nigeria

The Federal Government has announced plans to set up an aircraft manufacturing facility in Nigeria, partnering with XeJet and local banks.

The project seeks to establish Nigeria as a center for aviation services in the region and enhance the domestic aviation sector.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this during the launch of XeJet’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility and flight support center in Abuja.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the sector, Keyamo said, “Since we came to office, we’ve been focused on attracting MRO facilities to our aviation ecosystem, just as they exist in other parts of the world.

“We’ve searched far and wide for investors, but now we see that what we were looking for elsewhere is right here at home. This collaboration between an indigenous operator and local banks is a dream come true.”

The minister emphasized the inclusion of additional facilities, such as a training center, which he described as a significant achievement.

“This advancement will benefit Nigeria and also draw users from the wider West African region.

“That’s the vision—to turn this facility into a regional hub of excellence,” Keyamo further stated.

The initiative matches the government’s goal to assist local operators and foster growth in the country’s aviation sector.
