The Federal Government has said that the Integrated Textile and Garment Park billed to be established in Funtua, Katsina State, is capable of generating over 70,000 jobs for Nigerians.
The Director-General, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, Adesoji Adesugba, made the disclosure at the handing over ceremony of the project held in Abuja, on Tuesday.
The Director-General, Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Jikamshi, handed the Certificate of Occupancy of the site for the construction of the Integrated Textile and Garment Special Economic Zone to the DG of NIPC on the occasion.
In his address on the occasion, Adesugba stated that the FG had spent N500m on the project, announcing that the construction of the project would be completed in 18 months.
He said, “Currently, the government has already expended N500m in that particular zone. As regards timeframe, we believe that within the next 18 months, we would be ready for investors to start choosing the zone.
“In terms of job creation for the business model we planned, we believe that the direct jobs of about 10,000 would be created when the project is fully implemented and about 60,000 indirect jobs would be created in the locality. This has a great multiplier effect when it comes to textile and we believe that this is the right place to site it.
“We expect traction because the people that are going to drive the implementation and the FG is also supporting us so we see no reason why we should not deliver on time.”
Noting that the project would attract huge investment, he urged other states of the federation to emulate Katsina with regards to partnership on industrialization and development.
KSIP is partnering with NEPZA and UNIDO to create medical economic zones within the state.
