The Federal Government has announced plans to settle the outstanding five months of N35,000 wage award arrears owed to federal government workers.
This was disclosed by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in a statement issued in Abuja.
The OAGF explained that while the Federal Government had earlier paid five months’ worth of the wage award in instalments, the remaining arrears would now be paid in further instalments specifically, N35,000 per month for five months.
The office further clarified that the first instalment of the outstanding arrears would be disbursed after the April 2025 salary payment.
“The wage award arrears would not be paid with the April 2025 salary; it will come immediately after the salary is paid,” the OAGF stated.
The Office of the Accountant General reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to fully implementing all policies and agreements related to staff remuneration and welfare, with the aim of boosting productivity and efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Federal Workers Forum on Wednesday demanded the immediate settlement of the five-month wage award arrears for all federal workers.
The FWF issued this demand in a statement announcing the commencement of an indefinite nationwide protest to press home their demands for justice, tagged #FederalWorkersProtest and #FederalWorkersHaveSufferedEnough.
The statement, signed by FWF National Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, and FWF Secretary General, Comrade Itoro Obong, emphasized that the protest followed the expiration of an earlier 21-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to address the workers’ grievances.
According to the FWF, the government has so far remained unyielding.
“We have however commenced the indefinite protest and day 1 has shown to be peaceful and successful as federal workers across the federation joined the protest nationwide, occupying the different federal government secretariats across the federation despite heavy deployment of security operatives,” the statement read.
“It is an indefinite protest and we shall continue tomorrow, 23rd April, until the FG meets up with our demands,” the group added.
