The people of Ohoro community in Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State, are now living in fear as suspected Fulani herdsmen on Christmas day killed two members of the community.
Our correspondent gathered that since the incident, the people of the community could no longer go to their farms because of the fear of the suspected Fulani herdsmen alleged to have laid siege to their farmlands.
Though police sources said investigation had already commenced on the incident, the community has taken up their security and has set up local vigilance group to patrol the nooks and crannies of the community to avert a recurrence of such killings.
According to a resident, Mr. Umukoro Oghenekaro, who spoke with our correspondent, trouble started when the deceased persons tried to stop the herdsmen and their cattle from destroying their farm lands in the community and they were allegedly shot dead by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Oghenekaro, said, “On the 26th December 2016, Fulani herdsman killed vibrant young men in Ohoro in Uwheru Kingdom, simply because they wanted to possess their farm land by destroying all the farm products.
“While trying to stop the herdsmen, they just opened fire on the innocent villagers and killed about two of them instantly.
“This is not the first time the Fulani herdsmen have invaded our farm land. Last year they killed almost 10 people and we wrote to the various arms of government, but they keep deaf ears”.
He, however, appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other relevant authorities to come to the aid of the community before the incident snowballed into a major crisis in the area.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, contacted confirmed the incident, saying that police was on top of the matter.
Aniamaka assured that those involved in the crime would be brought to book.

Describing the incident as man’s inhumanity to man, the PPRO appealed to the bereaved parties to exercise restraints so as not to take the law in their hands.
