The Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Friday, suspended the Chairman of the Ikere Local Government Area, Femi Ayodele, for allegedly sponsoring unauthorised presidential campaign posters for Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The lawmakers unanimously suspended Ayodele during plenary, saying his action was antithetical to the extant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended.

The Council boss had reportedly sponsored campaign posters for a purported 2023 presidential ambition of Fayemi on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in the posters, with the text, “Support His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for President 2023,” wore a sky blue Agbada with a blue striped cap.

Following a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Gboyega Aribisogan; seconded by Tajudeen Akingbolu (Ekiti West Constituency 1, APC), titled, “Calling for investigation into the alleged unsolicited and unauthorised campaign in the media in flagrant disregard to Extant Regulations by Chairman, Ikere Local Government Area, Mr. Femi Ayodele,” the lawmakers called for appropriate action against the council boss.

The Assembly, however, referred the matter to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for thorough investigation.

The Speaker of the House, Funminiyi Afuye, who is from the same council with Ayodele, directed the ad-hoc committee to submit its report to the Assembly within one week.

The lawmakers also described the unsolicited action as a huge embarrassment to the Governor.
